While most people can make a stand-up’s day by not staring at their phones for the entire duration of a set, Ellen went a smidge further and hooked terminally ill comic Quincy Jones up with an hourlong HBO special. Jones, who received a diagnosis of stage-four mesothelioma in 2015, had launched a Kickstarter with friends/producers Mickey and Nicole Blaine to record a special. Ellen not only placed the call to HBO, she also got Shutterfly to donate $15,000 to their cause. According to a press release from the network, the special will be released sometime this spring. Jones is set to record his hour on April 4, 2016, at L.A.’s Teragram Ballroom and tickets might still be available, so for the love of God when you go, don’t eat anything loudly or talk amongst yourself or shout jokes at the stage like you think you’re in the show or anything cute. An attentive audience is the greatest gift of all.
