Backstage Polaroids From the 2016 Tony Awards
If you made the mistake of missing last night’s Tony Awards, you would be forgiven for kicking yourself this morning. The show put the Oscars to shame when black actors swept the musical-theater category, and Hamilton surprised no one by taking home an impressive 11 statues. What’s more, the ceremony managed to masterfully address the horrific shooting in Orlando without sacrificing the joy and celebration of an awards show thanks to host James Corden, multiple award winners, and the cast of Hamilton. The telecast showed you the antics onstage and audience reactions, but photographer Lucas Michael was backstage with a Polaroid snapping winners and presenters at the Beacon Theatre to give us a look behind the curtain.
