Steven Avery’s story is just getting started. Netflix announced today that the network has commissioned new episodes of the documentary series Making a Murderer — which just nabbed six Emmy nominations — with creators, executive producers, and directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos once again at the helm. The new installments will resume the story of convicted murderer Avery and his co-defendant, Brendan Dassey, in the high-stakes and emotional post-conviction process, as their “respective investigative and legal teams challenge their convictions and the state fights to have the convictions and life sentences upheld.†Avery’s new lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, as well as Dassey’s legal team will be featured for even more intimate access to the case. “We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series,†Ricciardi and Demos said in a joint statement. “The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold.†Great call, Netflix.
