John Stamos just can’t stop revisiting his past. The Fuller House star will look back on his soap days with a new cable series drama that’ll chronicle the wild times of daytime soaps in the ‘80s. Deadline reports that Stamos is teaming with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the producing team behind NBC’s live musicals and a boatload of other projects, to develop the series, which is tantalizingly described as “Boogie Nights in the soap world.†The drama will follow “a young man thrust into soap stardom, during a decade defined by Reaganomics, greed, excess, indulgence and materialism. As a newly minted teen idol, he will struggle to balance his family life, working at his father’s restaurant, and maintaining his humble upbringing while navigating the temptations of sex, drugs and fame†— a logline that sounds dramatic enough for a regular old show but better add a brain tumor or two to get up to soap standards. The show is said to be inspired by Stamos’s own experiences, as Stamos found his own slice of teen marquee status at age 18 with his role as Blackie Parrish on General Hospital. Soapdish this ain’t.
