Chris Gethard is making his off-Broadway debut with some help from Judd Apatow. According to Deadline, Apatow will co-produce the off-Broadway version of Gethard’s show Career Suicide, which Gethard has been performing at venues like UCB and Union Hall in New York and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The show is described as “a painfully honest journey into the mind of one of the most original and exciting comics at work today†and “dives into his experiences with mental illness, ethically questionable psychiatry and finding hope in weird places.â€
“I think the show is hilarious but it is also about a topic that a lot of people are struggling with and are ashamed to talk about,†Apatow said on the project. “I had an instinct that what Chris is doing will have a big impact on people as well as entertain them. As soon as I saw it I asked Chris if I could help in any way.†The show begins performances at the Lynn Redgrave Theater on Tuesday, October 4th and opens on Thursday, October 13th.
