Saturday Night Live’s Chris Kelly on Getting Promoted to Co-Head Writer

When Chris Kelly sat down to be interviewed for the Vulture TV Podcast, he was having quite a week. Aside from being promoted to co-head writer at Saturday Night Live after being at the show for four seasons, Kelly’s first feature film, the semiautobiographial Other People, came out this past weekend. It was also his birthday! Kelly talked to Jen Chaney and Jesse David Fox about transcribing SNL sketches as a kid for no reason, the difference between live sketches and pretaped, how every character is going to be gay this season, and the surprisingly touching story surrounding his use of Train’s “Drops of Jupiter†in the film.
