Dwayne “The Rock†Johnson is turning his real-life experiences as a wrestler into a new comedy at Fox. According to Variety, the network has given a put pilot commitment to an hourlong single-cam comedy produced by Johnson, Will Ferrell, and Adam McKay loosely based on Johnson’s experiences as well as former WWE head writer Brian Gewirtz, who is also attached as a producer. The show will offer a “behind-the-scenes look at a fictional professional wrestling outfit and chronicles the one-of-a-kind odd couple relationship that develops between a charismatic young character, like the The Rock, and a painfully awkward comedy writer new to the world of wrestling. A fish-out-of-water among all of these alpha males, this beta former sitcom writer needs as much help as he can get navigating the extremely passionate, sometimes crazy and always unpredictable world of professional wrestling.†Married creator Andrew Gurland is attached to write the script for the pilot.
Earlier this week, Fox also announced that it’s put into development a comedy about a ‘90s rapper produced by Common as well as a private eye comedy starring Anders Holm.
