For one very special night only, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will play the role of Duchess of Krakenthorp in the Washington’s National Opera’s production of Donizetti’s Daughter of the Regiment on November 12. The role is non-singing, as Ginsburg has to save her voice for shaping the nation’s legal landscape, but it will be tweaked slightly to poke fun at the fact she is on the Supreme Court of the United States, which is much more impressive. “While the opera is best known for the vocal acrobatics required of its singers, the high-comedy antics of the non-singing role of the Duchess of Krakenthorp often steal the show,†the National Opera said in a release. As Time points out, the Duchess will be 83-year-old RBG’s first actual role, though she’s appeared in several previous productions as an extra while serving as, you know, a Supreme Court justice. Meanwhile, your plans to watch the entirety of Friends on Netflix yet again this weekend is going swimmingly.
