Controversy erupted earlier this week when Lil Wayne brushed off an interview question about Black Lives Matter, but it’s not as if his camp didn’t try to prevent it. No, not by preparing a few follow-up remarks for Weezy in case the topic came up, but by asking that his interview never see the light of day entirely. “I am a young black rich motherfucker. If that don’t let you know that America understand black motherfuckers matter these days, I don’t know what it is,†the rapper told Nightline’s Linsey Davis. “Don’t come at me with that dumb shit, ma’am. My life matter, especially to my bitches.†According to TMZ, the rapper’s reps requested the interview be pulled without success, alleging that Davis’s question had not been preapproved. ABC claims, however, that approval wouldn’t have been an issue. “When it came to the questions and the topics of the interview nothing was off limits,†the network told TMZ. Lil Wayne later apologized for his comments and attributed his response to a combative interview, saying he was “agitated†after Davis asked him if he would want his daughter referred to as “a bitch and a hoe.†Regardless, TMZ reports that Weezy allegedly fired his publicists when the interview aired, anyway.
