Prepare to Get Weird With Twin Peaks at South by Southwest

In the run-up to its May premiere on Showtime, the newly revived Twin Peaks is growing ever more present in the culture in increasingly Twin Peaks–ian ways. Take the two-day panel the show is putting up at Austin’s South by Southwest next week: While some TV shows do indeed have a presence at the annual music, art, and tech festival, we’re willing to bet that few feature musical performances “inspired by the series.†Fewer still are likely to attract names like Neko Case, M. Ward, and members of Tame Impala, artists whose unique and powerful styles, when juxtaposed with the performative notion of “inspired by Twin Peaks,†might be enough to drag even the most jaded SXSW-goer out of their venue-to-venue stupor just to see what the hell this could possibly be. Which, if you think about it, is kind of the reason to tune into Twin Peaks, both in its ’90s iteration and the near-future premiere. That, and Kyle MacLachlan’s Special Agent Dale Cooper, of course (who’ll also be hanging out in Austin, FYI).
