The 2017 Grammys have only just begun, and David Bowie is the night’s biggest winner so far. At an earlier pre-show ceremony, Bowie picked up four posthumous awards, including his first-ever musical Grammy. Bowie previously won Best Video, Short Form in 1985 for “Jazzin’ for Blue Jean” — the only Grammy he ever received while alive — and he’s now won Best Recording Package for his surprise-filled Blackstar album artwork. But his wins for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical (Blackstar), Best Rock Performance (“Blackstar”), and Best Alternative Album (Blackstar) mark the first time the Recording Academy has given individual recognition to Bowie’s musical genius. As it stands, Bowie has already won more Grammys in one night than he did in his entire career. And with just one award left to go — Best Rock Song (“Blackstar”) — Bowie could sweep his categories.
Update: Bowie also took home Best Rock Song for “Blackstar” to complete his five-category sweep.
