A dame and a sir walk into the Dolby Theatre … and things begin to get amusingly heated. As the story goes, Ian McKellen was attending the Academy Awards a few years ago when nominated for his beloved Lord of the Rings role, and he ran into none other than fellow dignified Brit Maggie Smith on the red carpet. But let’s just say the dame didn’t seem particularly amused that McKellen was sporting some New Zealand greenstone around his neck to bring him luck, and was extra-sure to bring up his fashion choice again when he indeed lost. Hey, at least we get a good impression out of it.
