Blumhouse — the studio specializing in smart horror fare like Get Out — is launching a TV arm. Blumhouse TV will focus on “dark genre†projects, Blumhouse head Jason Blum told the New York Times, namely about “the things that scare us.†Blumhouse TV’s first major project for the small screen will be Secure and Hold: The Last Days of Roger Ailes, a mini-series about the former Fox News chairman, who was ousted during a sexual-harassment scandal. The Ailes show is being developed with Showtime, and was initially announced in October; it will get a helping hand from New York’s national affairs editor and Ailes biographer Gabriel Sherman. The TV studio is also planning a Syfy–USA Network drama set in the same dystopian America of Blumhouse’s Purge franchise. Blumhouse TV isn’t Blum’s first foray into programming for the small screen. The horror impresario worked on HBO’s six-part Robert Durst docuseries The Jinx, and on HBO’s adaptation of Larry Kramer’s play The Normal Heart. Now, Blumhouse TV’s $80 million valuation (with funding from ITV Studios in Britain) will give Blum’s new TV studio more power for financing and producing.
