Last month, Jerrod Carmichael signed a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television to develop and produce new TV projects, and his first project for the network was announced today. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carmichael and his fellow Carmichael Show executive producer Mike Scully are behind a multi-cam comedy in development at Fox with Lil Rel Howery – who costarred with Carmichael on his canceled NBC show – signed on to star. The untitled show, which has received a put-pilot commitment, would center on Howery as “a prideful, self-made success who lives by the code to ‘always believe in yourself and great things will come.’ However, he finds that attitude put to the test when he learns his wife is having an affair with his own barber. He tries to rebuild his life post-divorce as a long-distance single father on the West Side of Chicago on a quest for love, respect, and a new barber.†Howery is also attached to write alongside Josh Rabinowitz (The Carmichael Show) and Kevin Barnett (The Eric Andre Show, Lucas Bros Moving Co), and if the project is ordered to series, Scully will serve as showrunner.
In addition to the untitled Fox comedy, Carmichael is also behind an untitled comedy in development at Hulu starring Ramy Youssef, which was announced earlier this month.
