Ever since Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he was planning to hand out the “Most Dishonest & Corrupt Media Awards of the Year†(or as Stephen Colbert calls them, “The Fakiesâ€), late night hosts have been fighting to prove why their show most deserves recognition for fake news excellence. And the race between The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, and The Daily Show with Trevor Noah in particular has been a heated one, which started when The Late Show revealed its Times Square billboard last week:
Hey @FullFrontalSamB & @TheDailyShow we wish you luck but we too have a Billboard… a much bigger & more powerful one than yours, and our Billboard works! pic.twitter.com/SgxyE2mj1n
— The Late Show (@colbertlateshow) January 4, 2018
The Daily Show and Full Frontal tweeted out their own “For Your Consideration†ads at the time, then The Daily Show took it a step further by buying a full-page ad in The New York Times and a billboard, followed by the below attack ad:
Can Stephen Colbert and Samantha Bee really be mistrusted? #FactNews #ZeroPinocchios #TheFakies pic.twitter.com/OlTlKq7Q12 — The Daily Show (@TheDailyShow) January 7, 2018
Then The Late Show fought back with an attack ad of its own:
The inaugural Dishonest & Corrupt Media Awards is one week away. What aren’t @TheDailyShow and @FullFrontalSamB hiding? pic.twitter.com/zV8O0bavmv
— The Late Show (@colbertlateshow) January 10, 2018
Not to be outdone, Full Frontal released its own attack ad today calling out the other two shows, and if we’re judging these things by amount of F-bombs, Samantha Bee is now the clear frontrunner:
Sorry, @colbertlateshow and @thedailyshow but NO ONE questions Sam’s dishonesty. #TheFakies #Dishonesties #NSFW pic.twitter.com/X4jin5OQVY — Full Frontal (@FullFrontalSamB) January 12, 2018
The Fake News Awards were originally scheduled to be handed out this past Monday, but they are now set to be announced next Wednesday, January 17th. Best of luck to all the fucking contenders.
