When she first moved to New York City from Korea in 1990, Jin Soon Choi started out as a manicurist. She quickly became one of the most requested editorial nail artists by Cindy Crawford, Marc Jacobs, and Steven Meisel, and went on to open four award-winning nail salons in the city, as famous for their service as their delicious citrus tea.
Since then, Choi has launched her own nail polish line called JINsoon. Her polishes are heralded for being long-lasting and quick-drying, and for staying chip-free for up to a week. The art-loving Choi’s latest endeavor is a collaboration with South Korean artist Hyang-Sook Yun to create a pop-art-inspired nail polish collection called Neo-Pop.
The Fab polish is the standout of the four shades. It’s a matte clear base with rainbow dot speckles that also layers well over the other pastel colors. Unlike most multicolored nail polishes, this one doesn’t look juvenile. Instead, it adds a sophisticated playfulness (and can hide any mistakes or chips later on).
Other fun shades include Hella (watermelon pink), Birdie (lavender), and Chillin’ (creamy white). These are also Choi’s first bottles with a white cap, well-suited to the pop-art theme. All of Choi’s polishes are made without formaldehyde and aren’t tested on animals.
