In the new Netflix movie Bird Box, Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich, and Lil Rel Howery star as a group of survivors in a pretty odd end-of-the-world scenario. Demonic creatures have overrun the landscape, and if you look at them your greatest fears will manifest right before your eyes, which leads people who see the creatures to die by suicide. Throughout the film, Bullock and a pair of children who are only referred to as Boy and Girl must navigate a forest blindfolded to avoid seeing the critters.
For better or worse, Bird Box has become something of a phenomena: Netflix says 45,037,125 watched the movie the first week it was released, which is definitely a totally true number that no one else has any way to verify. (Thank-you, binge factory!) Since the film’s release, the internet has been busy making memes upon memes and tweets upon tweets to process Bird Box’s slightly preposterous and emotionally charged horror premise. While there’s some doubt if the memes are real (and not just generated by Netflix’s team of evil genius marketing experts), there are quite a few of them and they are funny. Vulture has pulled together a lot of them for your enjoyment below, and they probably cater to an audience that has seen the movie — but honestly they’re still pretty great even if you haven’t watched yet. Happy Bird Box–ing Day!
