On Saturday afternoon, a Chicago judge set R. Kelly’s total bond at $1 million for his ten counts of criminal sexual abuse — $250,000 for each of the four sex abuse cases against him. The singer-songwriter, in order to be released on bond, needs to pay $100,000 (the standard 10 percent of the total sum), but as of Sunday afternoon, Rolling Stone reports that Kelly has remained in jail after being unable to pay the required amount. Kelly’s financial situation was previously described by his attorney, Steve Greenberg, as a “mess†at Saturday’s press conference, with Greenberg asserting that Kelly didn’t have a net worth to cover the bond amount. “He doesn’t have $100,000 sitting in the bank, in a shoebox, anywhere,†Greenberg said. “This is someone who should be wealthy … he’s trying to get it together.†He also claims Kelly doesn’t even own the rights to one of his most popular songs, “I Believe I Can Fly.â€
