On the day Rami Malek won an Academy Award for playing a British rock star who performed at Live Aid, another young, poreless actor started his own campaign to do the same. At Elton John’s AIDS Foundation Oscars viewing party last night, Taron Egerton, who plays John in the upcoming movie Rocketman, sang “Tiny Dancer†along with the star himself. Rocketman is directed by Dexter Fletcher, who finished Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer was fired, but unlike Malek, Egerton is doing all of his own singing in the movie. All things being equal, that means Egerton probably has even more of a chance of winning an award than Malek — that is, unless someone’s also releasing a Phil Collins biopic this year.
