Good news for the #SaveODAAT crew:
It turns out Netflix can be shamed into doing the right thing, it just takes time. Netflix announced that it will remove the footage of the 2013 Lac-Mégantic rail disaster from Bird Box, after originally refusing to do so. In January, it came to public attention that the film used stock footage of the real-life rail disaster that killed 47 people in Canada. According to Entertainment Weekly, the same footage was in the Netflix show Travelers. When the Canadian production company behind that show became aware of the scandal, they removed the footage and issued an apology. Why Netflix is removing the footage from Bird Box now instead of back in January is not yet known.
