Comedian Anthony Jeselnik stopped by last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote his recent Netflix stand-up special, Fire in the Maternity Ward. After briefly chatting about how his act has led some couples to break up and even end their engagements (“I take great pride in thatâ€), he dove into a long, hilarious story about the time he was asked to open for his friends Queens of the Stone Age at San Quentin State Penitentiary. Unfortunately for Jeselnik, the warden stopped him from doing a full set because he deemed his content inappropriate for the prison crowd, but he did make the mistake of telling Jeselnik he could at least introduce the band: “Now keep in mind, Jimmy,†Jeselnik warns Kimmel, “that is not what I am going to do at all.â€
Not only did Jeselnik manage to squeeze in enough jokes to completely dismiss the warden’s wishes (“Listen guys, I’ve been doing this for 17 years. I’m a famous comedian. So if you haven’t heard of me, you must’ve done something pretty fucked upâ€) and use his visiting daughter as a punch line, but he also got the perfect late-night-show anecdote out of the whole experience. “We go to run to the van to leave. Someone taps me on the shoulder. I turn around. It’s the warden,†Jeselnik remembers. “He shakes my hand and says, ‘Next time you come to town, my wife and I are gonna have to come and see you.’ And I said, ‘Warden, the next time you see me, I’ll be humiliating you on television.’â€
