Cameron Boyce, who’s been a prominent face for the Disney Channel’s kid-friendly television shows and films for nearly a decade, has died at the age of 20. A family spokesperson confirmed the news to ABC on Saturday evening, saying the cause of death was owed to a preexisting illness. “He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated,†a statement read. “We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother.†Boyce is perhaps best known for playing a laid-back rich kid throughout the four seasons of Jessie, as well as Carlos, the son of Cruella de Vil, in the wildly popular Descendants films. He also made frequent guest appearances on other Disney shows, such as Shake It Up, Good Luck Charlie, and Bunk’d.
“He was an incredibly talented performer, a remarkably caring and thoughtful person,†a Disney spokesperson added, “and, above all else, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, grandson and friend.†Descendants 3, his final Disney project, will be released later this year.
