U.S. Marshals will be bringing singer R. Kelly, who is currently being held without bond in Chicago, to New York for his arraignment on racketeering charges. He is due to arrive at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn for a hearing on August 2, according to court records reviewed by the Chicago Tribune. Kelly was arrested last week and pleaded not guilty to new federal charges relating to allegations that he recruited young women at his concerts for sexual abuse. “We’re talking seventh and eighth-grade girls,†Assistant U.S. Attorney Angel Krull said at a hearing on Tuesday in Chicago. “And it didn’t happen once or twice. He sexually abused them hundreds of times before they turned 18.†Kelly is currently facing charges in three separate jurisdictions: New York, Illinois, and Georgia, in addition to federal charges. He will be returned to Chicago for another hearing there on September 4.
