On Wednesday, a judge denied Harvey Weinstein’s request to be allowed to travel to Europe prior to standing trial for rape. According to Deadline, Weinstein’s lawyers sought to allow the former producer to travel abroad from August 12 through August 22 to work as a consultant on a stage production of Cinema Paradiso, a 1988 film he produced. The trip would’ve involved in-person meetings in both Italy and Spain, but the request was quickly turned down. Weinstein’s lawyers argued that he was being treated unfairly. “Here is a person who is presumed to be innocent, who has adhered to every single mandate of his bail agreement, who has not been able to work in close to two years,†attorney Donna Rotunno said. “He has been blocked from working in his industry, and when he tries to earn an honest living, is denied by the court.†Weinstein’s trial is currently set to begin September 9.
