Metallica, masters of the live-show spectacle, have postponed the Australia and New Zealand stops of their world tour to accommodate James Hetfield’s need to return to rehab. Per a band statement on social media, they’re “devastated†to “inconvenience†fans with this unexpected change, and confirm Hetfield has already entered rehab for treatment. “As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years. He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again,†it reads. “We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit. We’ll let you know as soon as we can … we appreciate your understanding and support for James and, as always, thank you for being a part of our Metallica family.â€
Metallica’s tour was set to begin on October 17 in Perth, and conclude two weeks later in Auckland.
