Thanks to the coronavirus, comedians are now trapped at home like the rest of us, so we decided that while we’re all self-quarantining, we’d do something a little different from our usual “Follow Friday†column. Instead of interviewing up-and-coming comedians we love on Twitter, we’re going live on Instagram every week to check in on some of our favorite people in comedy to get a firsthand look into how they’re handling the pandemic. So welcome to our new version of the column, now titled “Follow (From a Safe Distance) Friday.â€
This week, Carmen Christopher (HBO, Adult Swim, the NYC subway) and his two first names digitally sat down with me for a chat about how he’s spending his time in quarantine. He got nostalgic about getting spanked to fecal consequence, revealed which Sex and the City character he identifies with, and spitballed about what the future of live stand-up looks like. He even gave us some insight into how he and his roommates have been eating in isolation: “I’ve eaten ground beef every day [this week], Sunday through Thursday. I should be canceled for that, right?â€
