Don’t Think Twice, Bob Dylan Acted Out the Entirety of A Complete Unknown

We may as well start referring to him as Bob Dyláan with his commitment to biopic excellence. As recalled by one of A Complete Unknown’s producers on an episode of The Town podcast, the non–Timothée Dylan had full approval of what became the film’s final script — meaningful involvement that was encouraged by director James Mangold. (Really, would you say no if Lucky Wilbury wanted to do a work hang?) The duo met multiple times to sort out everything related to the narrative, which included a personal request from Dylan to include one bullshit, made-up moment. “At one point, they sat there and they read the entire script out loud with Jim Mangold reading every part and stage direction and Bob Dylan only reading lines and dialogue for himself,” producer Peter Jaysen recalled. “Through that process, he sat there writing notes on the script. And at the end of the last session with Jim Mangold, he signed the script and said, ‘Go with God.’” While Dylan has publicly acknowledged A Complete Unknown and Chalamet as being a “brilliant actor,” he hasn’t confirmed he has actually watched the film. He’s too busy tweeting about the legacy of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
