Coldplay’s tenth album, MOON MUSiC, is out today, but if you acted fast, you could’ve bought a copy yesterday on QVC. The band appeared on the longtime home-shopping channel to hawk their new record and had a surprisingly great time doing it. Along with singing a few selections from the album (while joined by the Mzansi Youth Choir from Soweto, South Africa), the members answered calls from fans and even made up a song on the spot for one. Coldplay had some home products to demo, too, showing off a MOON MUSiC tea set and toaster as part of a sweepstakes. (“The music is really just serving our kitchen lives now,†singer Chris Martin said jokingly.) Leave it to the expert, host and Coldplay superfan Jennifer Coffey, to make the sale, though: “One of the reasons I love their music so much is that it’s filled with joy. And positivity. And love,†she said after the band sang “JUPiTER.†“And I’m certain you heard that right now — this has been rehearsed today and there’s never a dry eye in the house when that happens. I’d love for you to have that moment yourself again and again and again.†The pitch worked, to the tune of over 6,500 CDs and vinyl records sold during their 30-minute segment. Hey, anything to get to No. 1 these days!
