Julia Claire Recognizes That Comedians Are Not Essential Workers

Thanks to the coronavirus, comedians are now trapped at home like the rest of us, so we decided that while we’re all self-quarantining, we’d do something a little different from our usual “Follow Friday� column. Instead of interviewing up-and-coming comedians we love on Twitter, we’re going live on Instagram every week to check in on some of our favorite people in comedy and get a firsthand look into how they’re handling the pandemic. So welcome to our new version of the column, now titled “Follow (From a Safe Distance) Friday.�

This week, I sat down (so to speak) with podcast host and beautiful hair-haver Julia Claire (Chris Gethard Presents, Funny or Die, Reply Guys) for a lil’ discussion about how she’s coping with quarantining in the recently dead NYC. She offered her thoughts on outdoor comedy shows versus outdoor music shows, gushed about her best friendship with incumbent Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey, and debated the age-old question of whether it’s kosher to post selfies on Twitter. She also gave some quality tips to anyone looking to start a new leftist podcast: “Number one piece of advice: Don’t do it.�
