The Today show had an eventful day. First, Hoda Kotb told the world about her imminent departure (next year) from the program. Then, the women of nu-The Real Housewives of New York City debuted their new taglines on Today With Hoda & Jenna. That’s important, because it shows which women had an iconic enough moment last season to get a tagline based around their antics, and which ones just got tagline-shaped mush about being slay in New York. Bravo giveth and Bravo taketh away. Given that all these taglines set the tone for each Housewife’s persona for the season, we thought it might be worth fact-checking those we’re all about to become very familiar with, to see which are giving us an accurate impression and which are just red (delicious) herrings — using Snopes’ masterful rating system.
Brynn Whitfield
“Why date their dad when you can just be mother?â€
Okay, this one is a reference to Brynn’s tagline last season: “I love to laugh, but make me mad and I’ll date your dad.†Unfortunately, doubling down on this theme, even with the reference to Brynn’s gay fandom, doesn’t make much sense. She has yet to date anybody’s dad on the show despite getting in trouble last season for flirting with Erin Lichy’s husband. Gonna have to give this a “False†rating.
Erin Lichy
“In the cocktail of life, a New Yorker is never shaken nor stirred.â€
Erin is definitely a New Yorker; that’s been well established. However, she does often get both shaken and stirred when her co-stars annoy her, so this unfortunately warrants a “Mostly False.â€
Racquel Chevremont
“Just like a painting, you’ll need a couple of looks to figure me out.â€
We don’t know Racquel yet, so this could be true! We do think that she specifically means an Impressionist painting, because this is not really true of all paintings. Currently, we are rating this a tentative “Research in Progress.â€
Sai de Silva
“I may be hungry, but at least I’m not thirsty.â€
Sai is definitely hungry, as proved by the seasonlong cheese debacle, so that’s true. But it is also true that it is nigh impossible to be an “influencer turned reality-TV star†without being at least a little thirsty. Like, that’s in the job description. This gets a solid “Mixture.â€
Jessel Taank
“I’m not up-and-coming, I’m already there.â€
Jessel’s tagline is a nod to her referring to the neighborhood Tribeca as “up-and-coming†on season one. Just like Tribeca, Jessel is already a star, as is her husband, Pavit, for what it’s worth. We say this is “True.â€
Ubah Hassan
“Love looks good on me, but darling, what doesn’t?â€
It appears that Ubah’s story line this season will fully center around her search for love. This was definitely a missed opportunity to reference Ubah Hot, but this is “True.â€
Jenna Lyons
“Not everyone can be Jenna Fucking Lyons, but they can try.â€
This is both the best tagline of the year and undoubtedly “True.â€
