A few days removed from Mother’s Day, comedian Sarah Silverman is still marking the importance of the occasion. “LOVE YOUR MOTHER,” reads the T-shirt she wears onstage in her upcoming second HBO special, Someone You Love. “Sparkle, peanut,” she says to herself in the trailer before taking the stage at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston and talking about Nazis. She recently bought a German car, she explains, because all the “original Nazis” are dead. “There are new Nazis,” she clarifies, “but, you know, they don’t know how to make a car.”
Silverman has been busy in the six years since she released her last special, 2017’s A Speck of Dust, on Netflix. She helmed her own Hulu talk show, I Love You, America With Sarah Silverman, which was canceled in 2019. She performed a sold-out, Off Broadway run of a musical adaptation of her 2010 memoir, The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee. She hosts the popular Sarah Silverman Podcast. And she’s set to appear in Bradley Cooper’s Netflix film Maestro later this year.
Someone You Love was directed by Jonathan Krisel, the co-creator of Baskets, Kroll Show, and Portlandia. If Silverman is someone you love, you can check her special out when it premieres on May 27.
