Back-to-school season comes with a long list of to-dos — and if your kid’s worse-for-wear lunch box needs to be replaced, it’s time to cross that one off. The Bentgo kids’ lunch box, currently on sale for more than 30 percent off, is one of our favorites: It comes recommended by experts, and two Strategist staffers have owned and loved it themselves.

The vessel is recommended for ages 3 to 7 (though senior editor Winnie Yang says it’s best suited for preschool, and then snacks once they outgrow it) and comes in 29 prints, so you’re sure to find something they like. It’s a bento-style box, with five different-size compartments for various foods (including a sauce-specific one, so you don’t have to worry about packing an extra mini-container). The whole compartment tray is removable and dishwasher-safe, making it very easy to clean. (Yang says she ran hers through the dishwasher probably hundreds of times.) If they drop it, the rubber-coated edges will prevent breakage and scratches. The locks are secure, but still intuitive for little hands to open. And it’s flat, compact, and lightweight — easy to stack in the fridge for school the next day and then slip into a backpack on your way out the door.

The Strategist is designed to surface useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Every product is independently selected by our team of editors, whom you can read about here. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
