Chris Pine May Star in Welcome to People

Pine’s People: Chris Pine is in “preliminary discussions†to star in Dreamworks’ drama Welcome to People, the directorial debut of Star Trek and Transformers co-screenwriter Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote the script. The film follows a man who must deliver $150,000 in cash to “an alcoholic sister he didn’t know he had†after their father dies. He also becomes involved in the life of her “angry 12-year-old son,†somehow managing to do so without revealing his own identity. Working against the project: This is the kind of title that feels like it’s missing a word no matter how many times you double-check that you’ve got it right. [HR]

Patriarch Plummer: Christopher Plummer is joining the adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. He’ll be playing “the patriarch of the family with dark secrets†in the David Fincher film, which stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara as a journalist and hacker, respectively. The duo are hired by Plummer’s “wealthy industrialist†to solve a murder that has gone unsolved for 40 years. [HR]

Sully’s Story: Captain Chesley “Sully†Sullenberger’s story will be turned into a movie, as Kennedy/Marshall Co. and Flashlight Films have optioned the memoir by the pilot who landed his plane in the Hudson. No studio, writer, or director is attached to the project yet. Sullenberger and his wife Lorrie will serve as consultants on the film, which will either take the form of a theatrical release or a made-for-TV movie. Hopefully they’ll refer to Vulture’s recommendations when they get to the casting process. [Variety]

Hunter’s Tale: Universal has made a deal to acquire Snow White and the Huntsman, a “revisionist take on the fairy tale†written by Evan Daugherty. Rupert Sanders, who has directed a slew of commercials, is currently attached to helm. This version focuses more on the huntsman, who is tasked in the fairy tale with taking Snow White into the woods and killing her but ends up letting her go. The huntsman is not a love interest in the film, though the two apparently spend part of the movie chained together during an escape attempt; instead, he is meant to be more like her “mentor.†This film should not be confused with Natalie Portman’s “edgy†Snow White project. Yep, that’s right, there have been two different Snow White projects announced in the past week. [Deadline]

Experimental: NBC has picked up a comedy pilot from Jack Black that is based on A.J. Jacobs’s nonfiction book The Guinea Pig Diaries: My Life as an Experiment. The series is about a man who is committed to self-improvement and “takes on different experiments and lifestyles,†at no small cost to his family. [HR]

Conn Game: British actress Shelley Conn has won the female lead opposite Jason O’Mara and Stephen Lang on the Steven Spielberg–Peter Chernin adventure series Terra Nova. Conn will play the wife of O’Mara’s character, parents to three children, who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join a group of humans who are given another chance to create a civilization.
