After months of rumors and speculation, Fox is finally making it official: Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr., and Keith Urban will be the judges on American Idol this coming season, and Randy Jackson will indeed be the show’s “in-house mentor,†the network announced today. Okay, fine: J.Lo is fine, Harry Connick Jr. is fine, Keith Urban is fine, even Randy Jackson is whatever. These people are all fine. But thirteen seasons in, it’s hard to care all that much about who will be offering tepid praise to badly styled 22-year-olds whose celebrity will fade faster than you can say, “Wait, what was that girl’s name? Who won last year?†(Her name is Candice.)
