Showtime has landed a new comedy starring Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman. THR reports that the pay cable network has ordered 10 episodes of Happyish, a dark comedy created by This American Life contributor Shalom Auslander that stars Hoffman, with Kathryn Hahn and Rhys Ifans in supporting roles. The show, previously titled Trending Down, was ordered to pilot in July.
In Happyish, Hoffman will play a man named Thom Payne who on his 42nd birthday, is struggling with his new bosses being half his age and is having to choose between his antidepressants and his ED pills. Hahn plays his wife, while Ifans is his mentor. Ken Kwapis (The Office) developed the show and serves as executive producer alongside Auslander and Hoffman. This will be Philip Seymour Hoffman’s first full-time TV job ever.
