We all may have thought that Daisy Ridley was going to be the new Lara Croft. But just like Kate Winslet at the Oscars, Daisy has lost out to Alicia Vikander. Or rather, contract negotiations of some sort transpired and Vikander took the role in the Tomb Raider reboot. Fellow Scandinavian Roar Uthaug, who directed Norwegian blockbuster The Wave, will direct the film, which will “tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure.†The films are based on the series of video games from Square Enix. Angelina Jolie first played Lara Croft on film back in 2001. The casting puts Vikander, who had an excellent 2015 with turns in Ex Machina, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and The Danish Girl, on track for a similarly solid future, with Tulip Fever, The Light Between Oceans, a Bourne movie, and now Tomb Raider all coming down the line. All hail, Alicia Vikander, winner for the role of Most Cast Actress!
