The Little Women trailer debuted earlier today and caused time to stand still when Timothée Chalamet’s Laurie told Saoirse Ronan’s Jo, “I have loved you ever since I have known you.†The Earth’s rotation paused. Garments were torn (at least symbolically on Twitter), and director Greta Gerwig is here to throw a little more gas on your fire. The writer and director told People that, “There is some true pairing between them that feels like what’s in the tradition of great cinematic pairings.†She added, “They have an energy between them that is like they become a bonfire when they’re together. They’re both so alive and they’re both so talented and so smart and so young. When you put them together it’s like combustion.â€
So if watching a GIF of Laurie weep with longing at Jo from the new trailer didn’t get you sufficiently worked up, now you have Gerwig calling them “a bonfire.†She also said of Chalamet and Ronan that, “I think of them as my children†and “I just adore them,†so our hearts are with Lucas Hedges at this time.
