Truly there’s only one thing better than watching dumb rich people and that’s watching dumb rich people go down. The fact that it’s all orchestrated by Meryl Streep (in a bucket hat!) is just icing on a $3,000 Sylvia Weinstock cake. Steven Soderbergh directs The Laundromat, based on the real Panama Papers investigation. Widowed Streep investigates insurance fraud until it leads her to a pair of wacky Panama City lawyers, played by Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas. They’re like if Succession’s Connor and Roman Roy got put in charge of Waystar: massively silly but things get done … kind of. Their gig protecting millions of billionaires’ billions is no match for Streep — she has experience compiling classified documents. The Laundromat also stars Jeffrey Wright, David Schwimmer, Sharon Stone, and Robert Patrick. On September 27, The Laundromat hits select theaters for three weeks and arrives on Netflix on October 18.
