Fans have been gushing about Schitt’s Creek for years, and whether it was just a matter of time, or a just matter of quarantine comfort viewing, at this year’s awards ceremony, Emmy voters came out for the show in full force. With the Creek cast celebrating together in Canada, the sitcom won Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. The cast also won every comedy acting award, with Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy taking Outstanding Comedy Actress and Actor, respectively, and Dan Levy and Annie Murphy winning Outstanding Comedy Supporting Actor and Actress, giving Schitt’s Creek a complete sweep of this year’s comedy categories all together. All of which is to say: Congrats, David!
As for the evening’s drama wins, Succession was this year’s darling, winning Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, with an Outstanding Drama Actor award going to Kendall Roy himself, Jeremy Strong. Zendaya, meanwhile, became the youngest performer ever to take Outstanding Drama Actress for her work on Euphoria.
Not surprising to anyone listening to this year’s Emmy buzz, both Regina King and Yahya Abdul-Matteen II won for Watchmen, in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series categories respectively. The show also took home the evening’s award for Outstanding Limited Series and Outstanding Writing in a Limited Series. You can check out the full list of this year’s winners below, and yes, just so you don’t have to scroll down in a panic: Drag Race won, too.
