Broadway’s going to be saying “hello†to a new Dolly soon. Dolly Parton says a musical about her life, Hello, I’m Dolly, is heading to the Great White Way in 2026. And that title is not just a joke about Hello, Dolly! — it’s a reference to Parton’s debut studio album, released three years after that musical. “I’ve written a whole lot of original songs for it, as well as all the hit songs that you know,†Parton shared at Nashville’s CMA Fest, adding that the show has “a lot of story, a lot of family.†Parton has been working on the project since at least 2016, when she told Variety the first act would be about her life before Nashville and the second would be about her country career and stardom. The New York Times now reported Parton has been writing the book with Maria S. Schlatter, who wrote her Netflix Christmas movie Christmas on the Square, and is producing with longtime manager Danny Nozell. Remember, this ain’t her first rodeo — Parton previously wrote the music for the Broadway adaptation of her movie 9 to 5 and was even nominated for a Tony. Now let’s just hope that hussy Dolly Levi doesn’t steal Dolly P’s Broadway thunder in the next few years.
