Celebrities: Pay Our Rent (Please)

Eddie Redmayne, a thin man, has had quite a year. For one thing, he’s in a movie that seems like something you’d hear about being nominated for an Academy Award, which is — if you’re unfamiliar — one of the tippy-top awards you can win for a movie. For another thing, in a recent interview with GQ he said he sometimes pays rent for people he doesn’t even know because they write him a letter and either ask him for rent money outright or imply that it would be nice if he provided them with rent money.

Don’t believe me? Well, read his quote about it for yourself, then:

“I get letters from people trying to go to drama school and needing to pay their rent. And so that’s something I occasionally do. It’s impossibly expensive to live in London.”

Damn. People trying to go to drama school in London? They write him a letter? And he pays for their rent? That sounds like a pretty good deal. And another question:

• How does a person know to write Eddie Redmayne a letter asking him to pay his or her rent while he or she attends drama school in London?

It’s unclear whether this letter-writing trick works with all celebrities under any circumstance or just Eddie Redmayne under the very specific circumstance of attending drama school in London, but — just in case it’s the former — we’ve put together a simple form letter for you to handwrite and mail to whichever celebrity you feel you have the best chance of getting to pay your rent (Taylor Swift):

Dear [Celebrity],

Wouldn’t it be nice if you paid my rent? It costs only [cost of your monthly rent] per month.

I love your work and respect your privacy.

Your fan,

[Your name]

And here’s Eddie Redmayne’s address (I assume) just in case you want to try for him:

69 Eddie St.
Apartment Eddie Redmayne
Redmayne, London 42069

What a nice guy.
