Marc Jacobs Didn’t Want to Wear Andy Warhol’s Wig

Marc Jacobs appears in a silver wig to make him look like Andy Warhol on the cover of the June/July issue of Interview, but it took a bit of an arm twist to get him to wear it. “He said, ‘I’m not Andy Warhol,’ and he didn’t want to put on the wig so we tried dying his hair silver, and that didn’t work,” the magazine’s new editor-in-chief, Glenn O’Brien, told us at Celine’s dinner for Hunt Slonem last night. Jacobs had previously dyed his hair blue, which was worrisome. “I said, ‘Don’t get blue on the wig.’ Because we had Andy’s wig,” O’Brien recalls. O’Brien wasn’t at the shoot in Paris for which Warhol’s actual hairpiece was sent over. “I don’t know if that’s Andy’s wig on his head in the shot, but I talked to the guy at the Warhol Museum yesterday, and he was complaining about makeup being on Andy’s wig, so I guess they did use it.” Though O’Brien said he had a tough start at the magazine since he had to produce the first issue in a very short amount of time, he just wrapped up his second issue and says things are now going swimmingly. He also promised a full revamp of the magazine in September. “We’re changing the size and the paper and the design,” he says. “Bigger. Glossier … I think it’ll be surprising.” — Bennett Marcus
