Pregnant Abby Clancy Walks in Giles’s Spring Show, Veruschka Closes

Curves, which are (were?) allegedly back, made a pitiful showing in New York Fashion Week’s many, many shows. Crystal Renn walked Z Spoke, and … yeah. Across the sea at London Fashion Week, breasts and hips are faring better, and perhaps at least provide hope that the plus-size model trend is not just a fading fad. Giles Deacon, who last season cast Victoria’s Secret models Alessandra Ambrosio, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Izabel Goulart, and Ana Beatriz Barros, presented his spring 2011 collection yesterday on ladies including the pregnant model-slash-TV presenter Abby Clancy and fellow bodacious model-slash-TV presenter Kelly Brook. Other notables on his spring 2011 runway included 71-year-old legend Veruschka, who closed; Ambrosio and Beatriz Barros again; Agyness Deyn, who is neither pregnant nor known for her curves, but is a slash; and Amber Le Bon, who is neither pregnant, curvy, nor a slash.

Deacon works with Love editor and renowned runway stylist Katie Grand, who also styles Louis Vuitton, and has embraced fuller figures (by fashion standards, anyway) in her magazine. (Vuitton last season triumphantly cast Elle Macpherson, Adriana Lima, and many other famous non-size-zero models.) Grand will work with Deacon again on his first collection for Emanuel Ungaro, which will be shown in Paris in an intimate presentation. Deacon spoke to the Independent about his plans for Ungaro:

“I’ve worked very closely with the ladies in the atelier,” Deacon says. “They’re super-good. We’ve got lots of gorgeous prints in there, a funny mix of old ones and new ones. It’s a bit lighter than what we do for Giles.”


It’s unclear whether that will also be true for the models.
