Meet the New Girl: You Should Hear Anais Pouliot Scream

What do Georgia May Jagger, Lindsey Wixson, and this season’s Anais Pouliot all have in common? It’s all about their perfectly shaped bee-stung lips, of course! The 19-year-old was originally discovered back in 2005 in her hometown of Quebec. Though she signed with Trump Models two years later, the buxom Canadian (especially in comparison to her Über-waifish peers) waited to model full-time until those joyous years of high school were over. Now that that’s done, Pouliot has been making all the right moves in this industry, from a Miu Miu exclusive in Paris for fall 2010 to modeling for Prada and Miu Miu’s resort presentations this past summer. In her second full show season, she started slow in New York, but quickly built up momentum overseas, walking for Christopher Kane, Marni, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, and, once again, Prada and Miu Miu. This month, you can spot the pouty Frenchie in W magazine, shot by Paolo Roversi. And you will soon see her work with Terry Richardson, who no doubt played with her coquettish sex-bomb appeal. Click ahead to read a brief Q&A with Pouliot, and then visit her new model profile to see loads of on- and off-the-runway pics.

How did you get discovered?
Growing up I would often hear from people I should think about becoming a model. I had never even considered it — I was more into sports! Eventually, one summer my parents took me to an agency in Montreal and they immediately signed me. And the rest is history!

You’ve been on the scene since 2007. What kept you going before your breakthrough this year?
While modeling has been a pursuit of mine for the past few years, it has equally been matched with my focus on completing my education. I feel that clients today are looking for a model that is not only beautiful, but mature. I am still new, but experienced enough to give what photographers want on set.

Favorite memory from this season’s shows?
I can distinctly recall being backstage at Chanel and thinking “WOW” — no matter where my career takes me, I was a part of a major fashion house’s history! I felt so honored and tried to memorize every moment.

When you have a day off, what do enjoy doing?
I have recently taken up yoga classes and enjoy taking an hour a few times a week to focus on myself. This job can leave you run-down, and it’s important to take care of your mind and spirit!

What scares you?
Spiders! Seriously! You should hear me scream.

What goes through your head when you’re getting dressed?
Usually, my booker’s suggestions! She always tells me to plan them the night before! One of the good things about traveling constantly is that you can’t pack too much, so I usually have a few key pieces I dress around.

What other aspirations do you have outside of modeling?
I would love to work in casting one day — I feel that I would not only have an “eye” but the compassion to allow a model to be herself and shine!

Tell us something we don’t know about you.
I just love trying new sports and experiencing new things like snorkeling and hiking! I also love cooking, when I have a nice kitchen and time. Also, I’m an animal lover!

Favorite thing about being a model?
The opportunity to see the world and discover different cultures.

Worst thing about being a model?
Being away from my family most of the year — but like they say, distance makes the heart grow fonder!
