The 2011 British Fashion Awards took place at the Savoy Hotel in London tonight. The evening’s big winners included Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton (Designer of the Year), Stella Tennant (Model of the Year), and Victoria Beckham (Designer Brand of the Year) — who, according to Hilary Alexander, was near tears when she accepted the award from Marc Jacobs.
For the second year running, Alexa Chung got the most votes from the British public to receive the British Style Award. This meant poor Kate Middleton, added to the short list after a newspaper’s campaign and overwhelming support, lost out. (Right now, back in Kensington Palace, she’s surely pacing through a cavernous walk-in wardrobe full of panty hose, modest hemlines, and L.K. Bennett wedges, wondering where it all went wrong.) See below for the full list of the night’s winners and nominees (with the winners’ names in bold).
