The spring 2011 runways were filled with multicolored stripes on everything from dresses to shoes, while the spring 2012 collections had nary a bold stripe in sight. But designers returned to the pattern for pre-fall 2012, adding a sophisticated spin with muted colors that could transition smoothly between seasons. At Doo.Ri, a cropped, double-breasted coat was created from hues of gray, black, and cream, paired with a similarly patterned leather top. Chanel’s maharajah-inspired collection had a casual vibe with an oversize striped tee thrown over a draped skirt. At Thakoon, a feathered stripe pattern was woven into a knit dress that, with its nipped waist and gathered skirt, could easily transition from day to night.
