Daily Backstage Beauty Q: What Is Your Skin-Saving Product for the Week?

Skin takes a brutal beating at Fashion Week, from the humidity to countless double-cheek kisses, and for the models, multiple makeup changes. At Prabal Gurung on Saturday morning, M.A.C. makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury chose shades lighter than the girls’ skin tones to give them a “haunted and ethereal” look, which involved layers of moisturizer, concealer, foundation, and various cheek colors for contour. And the backstage space was without air conditioning, so people were glistening in a way that wasn’t dewy, nor fresh. Tom Pecheux dabbed on concealer and foundation at Edun to give models a “clean rock-and-roll” appeal (the rock part included eyes lined in black). At Alexander Wang, NARS’s Diane Kendal perfected complexions (like that of Liberty Ross) with the brand’s powder foundation, blushes, and illuminizers. Read ahead to find out how some folks are trying to protect their pores this season.

Charlotte Tilbury, makeup artist: “I’ve been making my own special, secret mixture that I like to call Charlotte’s Magic Mix for the last 20 years. It has ingredients that will keeps women’s skin from looking knackered, plus take down skin’s redness and add immediate glow. I’ll only share it with close friends like, Kate Moss.”

Alana Zimmer, model: “My facialist at Ling recommended iS Clinical’s vitamin C Super Serum, so I’ll use that. I feel that the older I get, my skin gets drier and drier and that serum is really hydrating. I also will use Sk-II’s masks every night for extra moisture.”

Edun

Tom Pecheux, makeup artist: “I have oily skin so I’ll put on Estée Lauder’s Idealist Pore Minimizer each day. It doesn’t mattify it, but it makes it look really satiny. I also really love Biologique Recherche’s P50. If you put a little on a cotton ball and dab that on the face, it closes the pores.”

Alexander Wang

Meghan Collison, model: “Lots of moisturizer! I actually use this one I bought in Paris, but I’m forgetting the name. I love it because it has sunscreen and anti-bacterial stuff in it to help with preventing breakouts.”

Teddi Cranford, Guido Palau’s first assistant: “I have eleven shows this week and my skin can get disgusting. I love Dr. Brandt’s daily exfoliating cleanser because it gets everything super clean, especially my pores. It’s also gentle enough to use everyday.”
