Only two days into New York Fashion Week and already a touch of S&M seems to be everywhere; call it whiplash from previous collections, like Prabal Gurung’s fall collection, in which Zana Bayne’s leather straps abounded, and of course like every other Steven Klein fashion editorial. At BCBG Max Azria the substantial harnesses added a touch of toughness to the delicate lace and willowy silhouettes gliding down the runway. They took more subtle form at Jason Wu; thin black suspender straps seemed more demure than dominatrix, without obstructing the view of the precious-looking cocktail and evening looks. Even menswear is getting the treatment: At Duckie Brown, harnesses were draped over shoulders like a casual afterthought.
