Retailers such as Target, Lord & Taylor, and Gap have decided to stay open for Thanksgiving, turning Turkey Day into Black Thursday and facing the “backlash of traditionalists who believe the holiday should belong to families, feasts and football,” according to WWD. Wal-Mart employees are particularly unhappy with the decision and have started a number of petitions. Sadly, it probably won’t change the minds of retail executives, as stores that opened earlier last year reportedly saw sales increase by 22 percent over the holiday weekend.
