For her daytime outfit, Michelle Obama arrived at St. John’s Church in Washington, D.C. wearing a Thom Browne coat and dress, J.Crew shoes, and her bangs (!). The designer told the Times, “It’s overwhelming … It is one of those rare moments in someone’s career that you will always remember. There’s not a word that can really describe it. It’s just amazing.” Browne said that he was asked to send an idea to the White House a few months ago, but wasn’t told whether Michelle would wear it, adding, “I wanted her to feel good in it and to feel comfortable, strong, feminine and beautiful.”
This isn’t the first time FLOTUS has worn Browne — she seems to like a gray, short-sleeve dress with a black lace overlay by him, which she repeated at the final presidential debate in October. This ensemble, however, will only be worn once; as the AP writes, “At the end of the Inaugural festivities, the first lady’s outfit and accompanying accessories will go to the National Archives.”
Yesterday, as President Obama took the oath of office in the Blue Room, Michelle wore a blue dress and sweater by Reed Krakoff, another one of her preferred designers. He told WWD, “It really is a highlight of my career … What we are most proud of is that she would choose to wear something we created for her in New York, and to have that kind of back and forth.”

The Full Look
She paired the Thom Browne, custom-made jacket with leather boots, purple gloves, her new bangs, and a spangled belt by J.Crew. No word on what’s underneath.

The Gloves
A closer look at the gloves in action.

The Whole Family
Not for nothing, the eggplant-toned gloves matched the jackets worn by her daughters (from J.Crew and Kate Spade), which were offset by scarves in equally regal shades. It’s like a purple rainbow.

The Kiss
You go.

The Religious Accessory
That is probably the closest that belt has ever been to a Bible.

Yesterday
When her husband was sworn in yesterday, the girls wore jewel tones and MObama swapped Thom Browne for Reed Krakoff.

Last Year
In case you need reminding of the first inaugaration jacket, by Isabel Toledo, which everyone lost it over.
